CALL FOR PAPERS

  • On behalf of Intercollege-Larnaca and Friends of Nature, Cyprus, you are cordially invited to the 1st International Bi-communal Conference on Biodiversity in Cyprus
Conference aim:
  • To provide a holistic view of the issues of biodiversity by integrating all of the independent biodiversity threats which are inseparable, influencing and conditioning each other and turn them into opportunities leading to sustainable biodiversity conservation.
Conference objectives:
  • To provide the scientific community with a knowledge transfer platform for raising awareness, collecting feedback and supporting initiatives to mitigate biodiversity threats
  • To exchange recommendations and prepare action plans for immediate implementation
  • To contribute to peace by developing research cooperation between people, institutions and countries
Target group:
  • The conference will bring together a range of participants coming from universities, research institutes, extension services, NGOs and the business sector

Conference Information:

  • On the occasion of the 2010 Year of Biodiversity declared by the United Nations, Cyprus would like to be an active participant by contributing to the development of sustainable biodiversity conservation
  • The 1st International Bi-communal conference held in Cyprus will be hosted by Intercollege-Larnaca (Greek Cypriot community) and co-organised with Friends of Nature, Nicosia (Turkish Cypriot community)
  • The new Intercollege-Larnaca premises will offer the conference participants modern comforts and technological installations. Intercollege-Larnaca is located only 30m from the coast and the terrace facing the Larnaca Bay view provides the ideal place for networking and the exchange of knowledge
  • Larnaca city with its rich culture and history influenced by the classic Greek, the Roman, the Byzantine, the Crusader, the Venetian and the Ottoman eras, provides the ideal location for an international conference
  • The state-of-the-art conference embraces: high quality research track with refereed paper presentations; cutting-edge keynote speakers and round table discussions from academia, NGOs and industry. Finally this event will be enhanced by unforgettable social activities and excursions   

 Submission of Abstracts:

  • The research tracks of the conference will focus on sub-themes including:
  1. climate change: wetlands and water birds
  2. wildlife harvesting
  3. desertification
  4. forest fires and landscape
  5. biodiversity as a victim of conflicts
  6. protected species
  7. tourism impact on biodiversity
  8. transportation impacts on biodiversity
  9. construction impacts on biodiversity
  10. human behaviour and biodiversity: communication and education
  11. management and marketing impacts on biodiversity

 

  • Submitted abstracts should be relevant with the overall conference aims and objectives and should be written in English. See below for important dates
  • All contributions must be original and follow academic writing, structure and methodology. Submissions will be blind-reviewed by the scientific committee which will decide if the proposed abstracts are accepted
  • Acceptance of abstracts will not automatically lead to acceptance of the relevant final paper. Following the acceptance of the abstract, the author(s) will be provided with specific guidelines for the submission of the full paper. Two anonymous reviewers will provide a final review process

Conference proceedings and publication opportunities:

  • All accepted papers will be published in a book (ISBN) and will be available for distribution after the conference. Each participant will receive a free copy of the book. Guest edition publications will be constructed after the conference according to the different tracks relevant to the journal. Later information will be provided.
