TOP Biodiversity 2010

Threats, Opportunities and Paces for Biodiversity

1st International Bi-communal Conference held in Cyprus on Biodiversity
Hosted and Organised by Intercollege-Larnaca and Friends of Nature Cyprus

Conference dates: 3rd - 4th June 2010

2010 - The Year of Biodiversity:

On the occasion of the 2010 Year of Biodiversity declared by the United Nations, Cyprus would like to be an active participant by contributing to the development of sustainable biodiversity conservation.

Human beings are one of nature’s rich diversity. Very often is in our hands the option of protecting biodiversity or destroying it. Business globalisation, changes in life styles and obviously climate changes are causing detrimental or even irreversible losses in biodiversity.

Actions must be taken without delay and this implies amongst other, a change on human behaviour and mindset. Therefore, this conference is aimed to critically reflect with a holistic view on the threats that consciously and unconsciously are done to biodiversity and to take immediate actions to safeguard nature.

Those threats are inseparable, influencing and conditioning each other. Therefore, the solution lays in a join responsibility and togetherness of actions leading to the final outcome of the conference.

Already the informal notification of the conference TOP Biodiversity (Threat, Opportunities and Paces for Biodiversity in Europe and Cyprus) has risen great interest  in organisations like BirdLife Cyprus, Game Fund, Warnell School of Forestry (University of Georgia), Cyprus Environmental Stakeholders Forum, Turkish-Cypriot Biologist association, Germany Friends of Nature and the United Nations in Cyprus.
